Start living a healthy life with Up from Jawbone
Nearly, 60% of America’s population is fat and majority of them are obese. Obesity, as we all know is very bad, morbid and dangerous condition which is responsible for many other life threatening conditions and diseases like hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus type 2, fatty liver disease (FLD, NAFLD), hyperinsulinemia, hyperthyroidism, arteriosclerosis, cerebral aneurysm, myocardial infarction, stroke etc. Since, all these majority of diseases and conditions are the result of an unhealthy life style (unhealthy eating, drinking and sedentary life), we can combat these evils just by becoming stringer and working out daily with eating balanced food. These sounds quite good and very easy but nearly 90% people fail at restricting their diets and following a strict and disciplined schedule of exercising and working out.
But still, the old English proverb, “where there is a will; there is a way” can help all the obesity sufferers or just fitness enthusiast achieve their goals and to further strengthen their motivation, Jawbone has announced a wearable gadget called Up that will keep up the good work and tell the odd, bad story. The ‘Up’ has been designed with sensors that collect data about how much you have been sleeping and how much you’ve been moving. That data is then transferred into a Smartphone application, which also takes in the information about meals (you enter meal data manually, in part by taking pictures of what you’ve eaten.) Based on all that information, the Smartphone program provides “nudges” meant to help you live healthier, day by day. For example, if you haven’t slept well, then on waking up the application might suggest a high-protein breakfast with an extra glass of water.
Up’s announcement also explains why US$120 million in venture capital cash were raised by Jawbone in the last four months. This also represents an entirely new space for the company with more potential than any of it has ever done in the past, including Bluetooth devices.
The interest grew when people realized how much work we’ve done in body computing and how large this market is
The product was designed by Yves Behar’s Fuseproject, but the software has been developed by Jawbone’s current CTO, Jeremiah Robison, who joined the company recently after serving as CTO of social-gaming company, Slide. The sensors (sensing technology) have been credited to Philippe Kahn, the CEO of Fullpower Technologies, a pioneering company in the field of sensor development & technology.
Although it looks like a fancy blue wrist band, which every teen would love to cuff up their wrists with. Bogard points out that the product isn’t meant to speak only to fashion-conscious city slickers who’ve supported things like the Jawbone’s baseline products. Rather, it’ll be an “affordable” and come in a range of colors.
Bogard also stated:
It’s about the same size as a Livestrong band; I’ve worn it constantly for the last two months, even in meetings where we were talking about the product to raise financing. But no one noticed. That tells us the product is working as we intended.
So, those who are conscious about their health and those who wish to fight back life style disorders and take charge of their lives; sleep, meal and activity tracking. Up is the best thing to have.
